Obituary for John F. Holleran

John F.  Holleran
John F. Holleran, Scranton, died Tuesday at Regional Hospital of Scranton after an illness. His wife, the former Geraldine Wilcom, died Feb. 16, 2014.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Frank and Carrie Thomas Holleran. Educated in Scranton schools, he proudly served in the Army during World War II and was a Purple Heart recipient along with various other military decorations. Before his retirement, he was employed in the local coal mining industry and also worked for the Postal Service.
John was one of the oldest members of the South Side Bachelor’s Club. He was quick witted and had a great sense of humor. He was a loving father and grandfather and will be missed by all who knew him.
Surviving are a son, Robert Holleran and wife, LouAnn, Dunmore; daughters, Karen Holleran, Ohio; Sheila Hunsinger and husband, Christopher; and Lauren Holleran, all of Scranton; granddaughters, Kristina and Kimberly Hunsinger; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was also preceded in death by a son, John Holleran; and sister, Jule Holleran Igoe.
A blessing service will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Miller Bean Funeral Home Inc., 436 Cedar Ave., Scranton, Interment with military honors will follow at Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.
Friends may call Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, 967 Griffin Pond Road, South Abington Twp., PA 18411.
